MJP Marine Jet Power AB is a world leading supplier of water jet propulsion systems suitable for ships from approximately 15 meters of length and powers from 500 kW. The MJP System generates more thrust from installed power leading to higher ship speed and better acceleration as well as lower fuel consumption. The product is very strong, made of duplex stainless steel and is used in shallow and dirty waters without compromising the product or vessel. The steering and reversing units offer very good manoeuvring at high and low ship speeds. Through several patents and design solutions a unique product has been created targeting low operational costs and easy maintenance and service.

Among the many MJP customers around the world we find several Coast Guards, Yacht Builders and Commercial Operators. MJP is represented all over the world through our network of Sales and Service Agents who together with MJP Organization interacts with our customers to find the best possible solution already in the tender phase of the project and throughout the life cycle of the vessel including local service possibilities.

The scope of supply includes one or several water jets and control system. Depending on hull design and material the intakes are made locally by shipyard or by MJP. The combination of the MJP duplex stainless steel product with FRP intakes provides a very strong, efficient and corrosion free product with a minimum of maintenance requirements. The control system comprises of hydraulics and mechanical or electronic controls and can include options for easier manoeuvring, additional steering stations, integration of rudders and/or trim tabs (interceptors) etc. During the project phase the waterjet system is tailor made for each vessel. Extensive CFD studies are carried out and the design of the system is adapted to guarantee maximum performance and fuel economy.

The MJP group is organised to provide good support in the design, developement and operation of the MJP Waterjet system.

Jets are designed in 3D CAD environment. Scale jet model testing are performed with very experienced PUMP and Naval Architecture expertise. Parts are manufactured in our own facilities from casting to machining and final assembly.

Electronic and hydralic control systems are developed and supplied by strategic partners. Project management and sales team work in close co-operation with the production and customer to ensure the quality of the delivered product.

Training is very often in connection with deliveries. Service and After Sales are making sure that parts are provided and vessels are running. The company is ISO 9001 approved. The jets are often delivered with classification approval.

The DRB, Double Reverse Bucket jet series is available in four sizes from MJP 350 to MJP 500 and powers up to 1750 kW per shaft. A very attractive unique product is created combining our well known high performing MJP pump technology with the heavy duty all stainless steel design, a maintenance free composite intake and inboard dydralics.

Jets with CSU, Compact Steering Units are offered in sizes from MJP 450 to 1550. The floating drive shaft make the installation easy and is one of the reasons behind the excellent pump performance giving low fuel consumption, longer range and higher top speed. In jet sizes from MJP 550 and up the hub unit from is accessible from aft for easy and fast service. The duplex stainless steel design offers superior strength against wear and corrosion.

MJP do not give brand name recommendation. The oils used with our systems should have the following qualities:

  • » Hydraulic oil for steering and reversing and in tank unit with combined lubrication circuit: Hydraulic oil DIN 51524 Part II ISO VG 46 or 32 for colder climates. The oil should have good quality against corrosion. Together with potentiometer feed back sensor we recommend zinc free oils.
  • » Oil for hub unit lubrication and separate tank unit: Mineral oil FZG larger than or equal to 12, ISO VG 68. The oil should have good quality against corrosion.
